| Life of Brian on the BBC |
[Mar. 29th, 2009|08:41 pm] |
I was just reading throught the BBC news article on the screening of Life of Brian and found a quote that I loved.
Palin and Jones talking about the film.
'The pair added they were happy to be in Aberystwyth, but were surprised by how long it took to get there.'
Long time? and I bet they didn't have to take the train.

I think it is awsome when friends just see you for exactly who you are. Thanks JTA
In other news this week teaching is going well I can let the stress vanish for a bit now. This week I had 142 reports to write. I did them all in one word document and was ammused when halfway through it exceeded the word count of my under-graduate dis.
I am planning on invading Aber at some point not sure when yet though.
I'm looking forward hugely to next weekend, going to see Snowpatrol with Faye at the O2 arena. |

| 4 Years |
[Jan. 25th, 2009|06:48 pm] |
|
On Friday it was 4 years since Faye and I started going out together. This makes me feel old.
She came down for the weekend and it was great. We spent most of Saturday walking around Southampton being couple like, not really doing much apart from spending time in each other's company which was nice.
Presents were exchanged as has become tradition. I normally consider myself quite good at choosing presents but this year I was beaten hands down as Faye presented me with Munchkin Quest.
It is AWSOME it adds just that extra little layer of difficulty that can completely screw with your head. I mean we are all used to going looking for monsters but what do you do when the monster finds you?
We went out to a nice Italien in Cowes on Saturday night and had some very nice food.
I probably should write more about that but as my housemate is out I'm off to go and knock on random peoples doors to get them to play my new game. |

| January |
[Jan. 18th, 2009|09:15 pm] |
What have I been up to? Honestly not a lot. Christmas was nice in the only way it can be nice. I'm not a person for winter holidays or winter in genral but there you go. Back at work but only 4 weeks till half term. Those 4 weeks though will be packed I have to have both pieces of coursework for my GCSE classes done, write ~90 year 9 reports and have written a proposal for the school to start teaching GCSE astronomy next year (to be honest the last one is entirely my fault but will mean lots of fun teaching next year). On top of my normal teaching load and trying to see Faye more often.
I've sucked at seeing Faye recently. Well that's not entirely true I've seen her the last 2 weekends and will again this weekend but it always seems to be her doing the travelling. I'm hoping against hope that she gets a job near here for her NQT year. I love the school I'm at and the area I'm living but it was moronic of me to move so far away from her. I somehow forgot that we are a lot happier being able to see each other whenever we wanted rather than every other weekend.
Anyway I should pop off and check I have everything I need for the morning, iron shirts etc. |

I really want a game of Ninja Burger some time soon. At the moment I don't have the time to run it. Does anyone else want to have a go? I'm sure there are enough people up for the game. |

Any good free anti virus software out there?
I think I've contracted something or other but can't afford any paid protection till money come through on Tuesday. |

| So I really should post an update |
[Sep. 20th, 2008|04:12 pm] |
I've been an official member of staff at the school for 3 weeks now. I've still not really fallen into a routine but I think I'm getting there. Apprently I'm quite popular with year 9 but some of the gcse kids don't like me as much something about making them 'do work' and 'making them work out the answers for themselves'.
The department staff are excellent. Fun to work with and very supportive. I'm slowly identifing the different political factions within the school and have managed not to get myself drawn into anything yet.
The island is good, had some really nice weather on and off since I got here today is shorts, t-shirt and sunglasses weather and yesturday I amnaged to be changed on the seafront and drinking a well earned pint at about 3:45ish.
I'm trying to find new things to do that aren't school related to expand my social cirle but finding that quite difficult at present.
Felt homesick a few times, I'm personally finding it quite lonely here. I've got lots people to hang out with and go drinking with but I don't feel particuly comftable around them. Whether that may just take some time or it's that they are just not my type of people I don't know.
Missing Faye a lot (yes yes it's my own fault I chose to move here blah blah blah) haven't managed to see her since early July but hopefully will be heading up there as soon as pay comes through.
I'll put some photos up on facebook of what I've managed to see of the island (very little and time is running out before winter sets in)
I'm trying to keep in touch wih everyone and hope you don't all go forgetting that I'm still here. |

Work is going well I'm alive. Lots of work. A few 'challenging' classes but nothing too extreme.
I'm loving teaching Earth Science as part of the GCSE its awsome and everyone thinks I'm ace because I can pull random facts straight off the top of my head.
Anyway I'm off to do some planning on geohazards I'll do a better report at the weekend. |

| Term Starts |
[Sep. 3rd, 2008|09:19 pm] |
Technically i started my job on Monday but tomorrow is the first day of term for the students and I'm a wee bit stressed.
I'm sure It'll be fine but it's stressful, not the teaching I'm ok with that it's just getting use to a new workplace and new system and new place to live.
At least have the internet working ,eventually ended up going with bt.
I'm sure I'll be more talkative at the weekend but for now just stressed. |
|
|
| So I'm here |
[Aug. 23rd, 2008|02:08 pm] |
|
I'm moved into my new house in Cowes, Isle of Wight.
It's a nice house apart from the lack of phone and internet. Called BT at 3:30 on Wedensday to get the line reactivated, it takes two working days but because we called after 3 it was two working days from Thursday and since its a bank holiday weekend that means the line wont be working till Tuesday evening, aren't bt delightful.
Anyway as soon as the phoneline is in I can talk to SKY and get the broadband sorted, good deal and seems cheap and was going to get the tv anyway as the house came with a box and dish already.
It's amazing just how much I rely on the internet I've discoved. Mostly to be fair in reliving boredom which I'm experencing a lot of at the moment. The only person who I know who is around is my housemate Gordan. Nice enough bloke, but been here or a few days and you need more than one person to interact with.
Anyway I'm signing off now will be back at some point in the week. |

| The Move |
[Aug. 18th, 2008|04:56 pm] |
Well I'm being extremly unorganised considering I'm moving to the Island tomorrow.
No idea what's happening about gas, electric, water bills till I get there.
Landlord is on Holiday so have no idea of the current state of the phoneline. Considering going for broadband with Orange but have heard mixed reviews about it (anyone any better ideas).
But I can't sort any of this out until my new debit card arrives. I'm quite happy to sort bills by direct debit but they don't seem to let me do that.
Altogether this means I have no idea when I'll next be online, which means comunication is limited to phone, mail, pidgeon, string and coconuts, smoke signals
Hopefully your hear from me again soon because I'm bugged if its not sorted by the time term starts in 2 weeks. |

| The return |
[Aug. 9th, 2008|09:29 am] |
I'm back from my 2 week trip to the South of France. It was ok nothing special really.
So now I have a few days to recover and then its time to move to the Island. |
